The Final Insult

So the day of the Boobs on Bikes parade arrives while I am at the EY tax conference and we have free time from 6pm to 7pm. Great! Back to my hotel room to watch the news and guess what TV 3 says?

Something like:

“We are mindful of the emails we have received protesting against the exposure of women’s breasts and as such we have edited the following story carefully.”

So TV 3 had pictures and interviews with some of the participants, those against the parade, and some of the 20,000 people who turned up to watch. But no boobs :(

The next morning and everyone else who watched the news saw it on TV One where there was no self-imposed censorship and a full report was shown. I just can’t win.

It was interesting though to see how many women were in the crowd and taking photos along with the guys. Apparently those against the parade are in a small minority.

I stopped watching TV One news after the Richard Long / Judy Bailey debacle but now I am considering switching back to TV One. Speaking seriously for a moment, if TV 3 are worried about upsetting a vocal minority, what else will they not show/report? It’s especially strange when you consider that the media often sit on their high horse espousing the need to report the news even if innocent people are endangered by it. To be fair, it is more often the print media that go to extremes.

This is the last post on Boobs on Bikes, I promise.
